The Countdown is on to back Manchester’s bid

Countdown presenters Jeff Stelling and Rachel Riley have urged that time is ticking for people to pledge support for Manchester to be a host city in an England 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The two hosts took time out from filming the hit TV show at Granada studios in Manchester to back the city's bid. They made full use of the Countdown props to encourage the public to get behind Manchester.

Jeff Stelling, sports journalist and television presenter, said: "Manchester's a fantastic city and it's pleasure to film Countdown here every week. I'm totally behind the city's bid to host World Cup games.

"I couldn't imagine England to host a World Cup without Manchester being involved. There are two world class stadiums in the heart of the city and a passionate fan base across the region. I hope that everybody who knows about this bid has already pledged their support and if not; what are you waiting for!".

The 2018 bid document for Manchester is in its final stages of preparation before it is sent to the Football Association (FA) at the end of the month. The FA is due to announce in December which cities will be included in England's overall World Cup bid.
