‘I Love MCR’ campaign supports Forever Manchester and Reclaim
Profits from the sale of official ‘I Love MCR’ T-shirts at a new shop in Manchester Arndale will be donated to Forever Manchester and Reclaim.
The decision to appoint an official campaign charity follows the
upsurge for 'I Love MCR' branded goods as the city's fightback
campaign gains momentum.
The official 'I Love MCR' shop will open tomorrow morning in Halle
Square within Manchester Arndale. All profits from T-shirts sold in
the next two weeks will be donated to charity.
As well as promoting civic pride it is hoped the campaign will
encourage people to return to the city centre to support the
restaurants, bars and retailers affected by the downturn in
business the disruption has caused.
Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester, said: "The
'I Love MCR' logo is becoming more and more visible across the
city.
"We expect the T-shirt to quickly become one of the most popular
ways for people to express their support for the campaign and we
are delighted that sales of the official T-shirt will support
Forever Manchester and Reclaim - two incredibly worthy
charities."
Glen Barkworth, general manager at Manchester Arndale, said: "Our
staff are all looking forward to wearing these T-shirts with pride
and we are really pleased to be part of this initiative because
nothing can halt the Mancunian spirit."
Councillor Pat Karney, Manchester City Council city centre
spokesperson, said: "What better way to show your love for our
great city when out shopping, having dinner or at the cinema than
to have 'I Love MCR' emblazoned across your chest. And the fact
that two really great Manchester charities will be benefit from
every single T-shirt sold is the icing on the cake."
The 'I Love MCR' campaign launched on Thursday and has the support
of over 3,500 people on Facebook - with soap stars and footballers
the latest to back the campaign.
