‘I Love MCR’ campaign really takes off
The ‘I Love MCR’ campaign that launched this morning in response to disturbances that took place on Tuesday has really taken off.
Manchester Airport, which is well known for its use of social
media, is the latest organisation to join the campaign - opting to
post the 'I Love MCR' logo above check-in desks and on screens in
the terminals. Thousands of international visitors will see them as
they arrive on Manchester soil over the coming days.
Andrew Harrison, managing director of Manchester Airport, said: "We
are proud of our region and work closely with partners like
Marketing Manchester to bring visitors to our great city.
We're not going to let the actions of a few spoil all of those
efforts and we are delighted to support the 'I Love MCR' campaign
and will be looking to get involved in the 'We Love MCR day', which
is set to take place on 26 August."
The Facebook group 'We Love MCR' has attracted over 2,000 'likes'
and the hashtag #ILoveMCR has been trending on Twitter throughout
the day.
Some of the people that commented on Facebook included Frank
Callow, who wrote: "I can totally believe the community spirit
that's pulling together everyone now. Good on you Manchester!"
Jason Wilkinson added: "The most amazing city in the world and the
friendlest - FACT."
Commenting on Twitter, Sayful Islam (@5AYF) said: "Community spirit
alive and well in Manchester. Be proud and love Manchester." From
the business world, Muse Developments (@Muse_Devs) posted: "It's
great to see people joining together in support of this great
city."
Adam Lance-Brookes was one of the first to join the campaign -
arranging a 'We Love Manchester' message board outside Footasylum
in the Manchester Arndale. Members of the public were invited to
leave a message of support on one of thousands of Post-It notes
outside the store, which was particularly affected by the
disturbances on Tuesday.
Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester, said:
"We're delighted with the response to the campaign. Mancunians are
incredibly proud of their city and they have taken the 'I Love MCR'
symbol to their heart. By 'We Love MCR day' on Friday, 26 August I
think Manchester will be a global example of civic pride in
action."
Councillor Pat Karney, Manchester City Council's city centre
spokesperson said: "It's great to see so many Manchester people and
businesses stand up and show the world how proud they are of our
great city."
